Notes Choking and Skipping Right Over without Playing

This cannot be right. As in, something is happening that should NOT.

There must be some setting somewhere, either with the MSQ700 or Reaper, that is active when it should not be. Maybe there are circumstances when such a setting MIGHT be useful, but clearly not in your case.

You need to check the manual for BOTH the MSQ and Reaper. Also, check the web as maybe others have hit the same problem. Something like All Notes Off added automatically.

Less likely, but maybe the command is being added because of some other problem, like the keyboard being in Omni mode, or something like?

Like it is now, you cannot play chords, or long notes on one ch with a succession of short notes on another Ch. Totally normal musical devices.

Hi Geoff, thank you so much for your response. These sequences were created in Steinburg's Pro 24 software with an Atari 1040ST waaay back in the 80s LOL. I load, via JL Cooper songstore disk drive, the MSQ700. The MIDI data then is on 3 channels; one for bass, one for synth pad, and one for synth lead. Then I set the SCI 400 DrumTraks to transmit its MIDI events synced with the MSQ700. All this then goes into Reaper which I create seperate tracks for the 4 different MIDI channels and set the recording MIDI inputs to the matching channels. I then press "Play" on the MSQ and it also triggers the DrumTraks to start sending MIDI.

Then, once in a while and not on every song, this problem pops up?

Here's what it looks like; the big picture showing all the songs and the MIDI channels that were recorded; two of the problem and one where it doesn't happen; all recorded with the same settings during the same session, load/play/record LOL

It wouldn't be such a big deal if I could figure out how to select and delete just "All Notes Off" in the MIDI event list

There is a message on a Reaper forum )I believe) from 2013.

This might refer to something similar, BUT?

It is noted to be happening on one Ch only, Ch 1.

An answer says that this is a message, not a midi command, so should not be doing anything.

I guess that this IS the fault of Reaper, if it IS doing something as you describe? When is your version of Reaper dated?

The 'excuse' given is that at that time Reaper versions were making a transition between two different methods of marking the end of a 'loop', or some other structure, and this was a marker to record such an event, but was NOT supposed to be active/actual midi code. Just a marker. But your version of Reaper is acting on it??

But not sure if this is the same as what you describe??

No, no oblivion LOL ... so, when I listen to the events without the ALL NOTES OFF between every note, the track plays as it should but when O listen to a track WITH the ALL NOTES OFF random notes do not play, that's the strange part, not every note, but random notes, however the same ones do not play on every pass. If I go in and remove the ALL Notes between the last successful note and the missing not, it plays perfectly on the next pass.

I have a paid-for version of Reaper 6.2

Oh and the channel is Channel 3

So, is it Ch 3 that has the problem, and the other channels are OK?

What instrument is on Ch 3?

Does it do this when you use the DrumTraks, AND when you do NOT use the DT?

Does your 'recorded' data (in a midi file???) include the ANOff commands? I guess so as you can find them and delete them and (painfully) 'fix' the problem! If so, seeing the midi file would be helpful.

I still do not see any VALID reason why anything should be inserting commands - of any sort - into YOUR music!!

There was a message posted about using a Filter, but now it's gone!

A filter may be helpful, although this is not an answer as to where the problem is coming from, but it's a possible fix?

I've got a Filter prog, but it's an old DOS prog that will not work with later WinDoze systems, also it's not 'real-time' to work WHILE you're playing. It works by reading a midi file, manipulating the data as it comes through, and putting the output to a new version of the file. It can do various changes, one of which is to remove all instances of specified things, such as Controllers. It can remove ALL controllers, or remove a specific one, such as Controller 123 (H7B) which is the All Notes Off.

The previous message suggests there might be newer WinDoze versions, including things that might work WITH Reaper as a real-time add-in??

In XGworks or SOL2 which I use as MIDI editors there's a "Select Same Event" command within the track edit selection.



I simply highlight the first "All Notes Off" entry in the track select same event and the delete and ... bingo, all gone.
Doesn't Reaper have a similar command?
