I assume RPN 0 still sets the channel pitch bend range, just like it did in MIDI 1.
But what about the range for MIDI 2 per-note pitch bend? Can it be different from the channel pitch bend range?

MPE typically uses +/-2 semitones for the channel and +/-48 semitones for the notes. Moving from MPE to MIDI 2 or vice versa would be challenging if this can't be done in MIDI 2.

The MIDI Manufacturers Association is currently in the process of writing a specification for an RPN (or similar) to set the Sensitivity (range) of Per-Note Pitch Bend.

Great, that would solve the problem :-)

Any news on this?

AU plugins support the MIDI 2.0 protocol since last fall (macOS and iOS). CLAP plugins support it too.

There's a need for:
- an RPN for per-note pitch bend range, similar to RPN 0.
- a default value for the per-note pitch bend range. MPE defaults to 48 semitones, it would make sense to copy that.

IMHO the MMA should specify this before people invent their own specs.

The specification has been finished. The document is only available to paid corporate members of the MIDI Association at the moment. It is ow going through the final procedures necessary to adopt and publish the document.
