I would like to start a thread about MIDI jitter.
I have been having some problems with MIDI jitter. I originally thought it was a latency issue until I realized that MIDI jitter is a is actually what it is called. The problem I experience when playing is that the response from the my synth module is delayed in an unpredictable and random way with some notes being totally ignored.
I want to be clear, I am not talking about recording, DAW, computer interfaces or usb. My problem is live performance.
I have a old midi instrument (IVL - The Grid, vintage 1984 or so) that puts out two separate channels, one for midi treble and one for midi bass (midi channels 1 and 3). I combine those with my foot controller using a Kenton-4 Midi Merger. I have eliminated the merger and the foot controller as problems.
I think it is caused by too much data being received by my synth module (Integra 7)? (Note I have this issue with every synth module I have tried, Yamaha, Korg, etc.)
I have alleviated the problem somewhat by reducing what is called "instrument velocity dynamics", but this is not a perfect solution.
I don't think the interface is sending aftertouch messages because when I connect to MIDIOX and analyze the midi stream I do not see any aftertouch or channel pressure messages.
Anyone else have experience with eliminating midi jitter?
Is it possible to filter data to remove jitter?
I have a MIDI Solutions Event Processor, can I use this to somehow filter the data?

It is extremely unlikely that any modern synth can be overwhelmed with MIDI messages, especially ones generated by manual playing.
The only common factor is your MIDI instrument, so I'd suspect that one. (Google is not helpful when searching for "IVL The Grid".)
How does the foot controller help with merging? How exactly have you connected your devices?

Thanks for your info. The IVL Pitchrider is the guitar version of the IVL for the Grid (I think you can google that). The grid is a MIDI Chapman Stick (stick.com).
My devices are connected like this:
The grid has midi out - 10 strings, 5 strings treble on midi channel 1, 5 strings bass on midi channel 3. I have a Behringer FC1010 foot controller for changing presets and volume.
These all plug into a midi merger, then into the midi solutions event processor plus, from there it goes to my Roland Interga 7 module.
My devices are connected like this:
The grid has midi out - 10 strings, 5 strings treble on midi channel 1, 5 strings bass on midi channel 3. I have a Behringer FC1010 foot controller for changing presets and volume.

As far as I can tell from this page, "The Grid" is a modified Roland GK-3. This device, by itself, does not actually have a MIDI output. What device have you connected to the GK connector?
You mentioned that you have ruled out the merger as the problem. Does this mean that the jitter also happens when you connect that MIDI device directly to the Integra?

My Grid has a single 5-pin MIDI output. The Grid has nothing to do with Roland, it was made by IVL which then sold the patent to Digitech. I have attached a picture of a 5-string grid, mine is double with 10 strings, all the same tuning.
The problem occurs with the grid plugged directly into the Integra -7. I also have this problem with any module that I plug into.

Everything points to The Grid being the problem. And as you have observed, it never sends many MIDI messages.
I suspect that this has nothing to do with MIDI, but that the pickup does not correctly detect the strings' movement. It might be possible to re-align the pickup sensors, or it might be another hardware problem.
