Greetings:

I'm new to MIDI in general, even though I've been a guitar player for 40+ years. My question is about cabling.

I have an old Alesis Quadraverb multi-effect rack processor. I want to be able to switch between programs using a foot controller. The MIDI connector on the Alesis is 5-pin. The pedal I want to buy has a 7-pin connector. I know there are cables that have the 5-pin on one end and 7-pin on the other. Will this type of cable work okay? I'm asking because I don't know if there are different pin assignments on the two different ends which will cause complications. Also, the foot controller I'm looking to buy is a Tech 21 MIDI Mongoose. The cable is a Rocktron 5-Pin To 7-Pin RDMH MIDI Cable.

Thanks.

Standard 5-pin cable will work for MIDI. Extra two pins are for phantom power.
