So, first of all, I'm very new to any MIDI stuff, but I wanted to play Guitar Hero with my electronic drum kit and ran in to a problem. The drum kit I use is Yamaha DTX432K and I have connected them to Guitar Hero World tour set. The Yamaha kit only has USB output and the GH set has MIDI input, so I did some research and bought Miditech USB MIDI host and USB cable for Yamaha-->host and MIDI cable for host-->GH. I hooked them up and it worked perfectly... for a while. Suddenly the GH set didn't receive the Yamaha inputs anymore and I found out that it started working again as soon as I unplugged and replugged the power cord for the USB MIDI Host. The problem is that the same thing kept happening. It works fine for 20 seconds and sometimes like 2 minutes but then it crashes/freezes again. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this or what I could do to make it work consistently? Am I doing something wrong and should make the USB-->MIDI connection in a different way and buy some other equipment or is it possible that the host is faulty and I should consider returning it to warranty or is there some simple fix I can do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it worked previously, and nothing changed, then it's probably a hardware problem with the MIDI Host.
A USB MIDI interface allows you to connect the GH to a PC. If this is what you want to do, then use it.

I guess it is not possible to power the DTX only through USB? It might need too much power.
Is the auto power-off function disabled?
Does the DTX work with any computer?

Just tested to make sure but yes, the DTX does indeed work when I plug it to the computer. Powering only through USB isn't possible, but I have the module powered up by the power supply as usual. Can this be the problem cause the host wants to power up the USB device? The auto power-off was set to 30min by default, also tried setting it off but didn't make a difference since it never actually turned off. Weird thing is that the host keeps on the green light, indicating that it's connected to a USB device but the signal just won't go through.

Forgot to more specifically ask if I should use USB-MIDI interface such as Roland UM-One rather than the USB-MIDI host, since both DTX and the GH set can work independently?

It was like this from the beginning. Indeed sounds like MIDI Host hardware issue but I have no way to test if it works on anything else since I don't have any other MIDI devices.
Just for the future reference, I finally made it work!
I ended up buying the Roland UM-One Mk2 USB-MIDI interface to play around with it. Of course it wouldn't work directly since it's computer driven and the DTX can't handle the USB end of it because it needs drivers installed. However, I came up with the idea to try and use my PC as the USB-MIDI host and this worked out. So in the end I have DTX>PC(USB) and PC>GH(USB-MIDI) and on PC I installed program called MIDI tools which handles the MIDI signal from the input to the output. It seems to work fine, not crashing/getting stuck and surprisingly no noticeable input lag either so it's very much playable!
Just wanted to clarify this here in case anyone is having similar problem in the future to know what my solution was in the end.

If there were no updates and it used to work before, I'd definitely chalk it up to more of a faulty hardware issue than anything else.
